THE PROJECT FOR LIVELIHOOD ENHANCEMENT OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE AGRI PRODUCERS THROUGH STRENGTHENING SUPPLY CHAIN STRUCTURE (JICA SSC PROJECT)
Funding Source and Objective
The Department of Agriculture (DOA), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is implementing the “Project to Improve the Livelihoods of Small and Medium Scale Agricultural Producers through Strengthening the Supply Chain Structure” with the support of Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. This project will be implemented in pilot sites in 6 districts of Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Matale, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Hambantota in Sri Lanka.
The key objectives of the project are to strengthening the supply chain structure of small and medium-scale agro-producers through existing economic development centers and to promote the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion (“SHEP”) approach in Sri Lanka. These two aspects were identified as a best model to improve the livelihood, social and economic status of the small and medium scale agri-producers after piloting those in African region.

Contract Objective
Infotechs IDEAS entered into an agreement with the Nippon Koei Co. Ltd to provide consultancy services for Market-oriented agricultural extension and Institutional development & monitoring activities of project in order to strengthen and upgrade the agricultural supply chain structure of small medium scale agri producers.
Final Output
The final output is to fulfil the training requirements in Market-oriented agricultural extension and Institutional development & monitoring preparation in order to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the target officers in those aspects.
