JICA PROJECT FOR PROMOTION OF SAFE AND APPROPRIATE USE OF PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS IN SRI LANKA
Funding Source and Objective
The Department of Agriculture (DOA) (“Register of Pesticide office”) under Ministry of Agriculture, Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is implementing the “Project to Promotion of Safe and Appropriate Use of Pesticides and Fertilizers in Sri Lanka” with the support of Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. The project target districts are Nuwaraeliya, Matale, Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Badulla.
The Project Objective is that capacity of the stakeholders and institutions is strengthened for promoting safe and quality crop production.
Contract Objective
Infotechs IDEAS entered into an agreement with the Nippon Koei Co. Ltd to provide consultancy services for Promotion of Good Agriculture Practice and developing agricultural technology and extension packages for appropriate use of pesticide and fertilizer (P&F) mainly for fruits and vegetables in order to develop safe and quality crop production practice among famers.
Contract Value and Duration
Total Cost – Sri Lankan Rupees 5,700,000.00
Duration – Nov. 2023 to Nov.2024, Ext June 2025
Final Output
Comprehensive action plans and action plans for the implementation phase for promoting safe and appropriate use of pesticide and fertilizer are formulated.
Technology and extension packages (tentative) for promoting safe and quality crop production is developed and validated.
Extension workers (including government and private sector) and farmers are trained for the use of technology and extension packages.
The experience and knowledge gained through the implementation phase are reflected to the Comprehensive Action Plans.
