SRI LANKA DAIRY EXCELLENCE TRAINING INITIATIVES

Funding Source and Objective

New Zealand Government funded – Sri Lanka Dairy Excellence Training Initiative Project is implemented by FCG ANZDEC, New Zealand and Infotechs IDEAS is the local partner to this project, in providing the national experts and managing the project for FCG ANZDEC. 1. The goal of the project is to support the development of the local dairy industry in line with Sri Lanka’s National Development Goal of increasing national GDP and providing benefits to every segment of society. The 1st phase of the project – ‘Sri Lanka Dairy Excellence Training Initiative (DETI)’ was started in February 2016 and successfully completed in July 2019.

Contract Objective

The project consolidates the achievements made in Phase 1 and bed in change within the system and scale-out new technology and practices to additional geographic areas (Central, North Western, North Central, Northern and Eastern Provinces). It also focuses on scale and breadth as well as sustainability, local ownership and attention to gender and environment/climate issues. The key objectives of the extension phase are to:

  • scale out DETI (Dairy Excellence Training Initiative) approaches to dairy extension; and
  • use and increase the use of IT in more locations; with more dairy development actors.

Final Output

Final outcome of the project is to provide improved quality and increased supply of local milk to the domestic market and for dairy incomes to make an increasing contribution to an improved standard of living for a larger number of rural families.
