Providing Drainage Facilities for the Guava Cultivation Farmlands Ipalogama Divisional Secretary’s Division – Anuradhapura District

Funding Source and Objectives-Ipologama DS division’s primary agricultural activity could be regarded as green Apple guava (henceforth referred to as guava). More than 500 farmers in this region have been growing guavas for more than ten years. The typical size of a farmer’s farm is between 0.4 and 0.8 hectares (1-2 acres). Some farmers do, however, cultivate up to 2–4 hectares (5–10 acres). Additionally, guava is grown by the local farmers in their backyard gardens.
Under the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP) Component 2, the Ipalogama Guava Cluster (CDP № 3-Ipalogama Guava Cluster, Anuradhapura District) has been established with the goal of producing guava as a possible export crop for the global market. Modernising current agricultural practices is the business potential that farmers and businesses have identified. Based on the information available, there are about 498 farmers involved in Guava cultivation at the commercial level covering an area of about 212 ha mainly in ten villages.
