Mr Godamunne has extensive experience in Business Management, Consulting and Advisory Services both in Public & Private sectors in Sri Lanka and as a International Civil Servant.

He retired as Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme in 1996. He was prior to join the UNWFP Secretary General and Board Director of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka from 1979-1988.

Concurrently he served as Chairman Mahaweli Venture Capital Company, Director – Mahaweli Marine Cement Company, Chairman – Sri Lanka/China “Indigenous Medicine Hospitals Joint Venture. Other positions held in the Public Sector include Director – National Institute of Business Management and Chairman – State Hardware Corporation (both positions held concurrently).

In his long career Mr Godamunne was closely associated with the Sri Lankan private Business sector having served as Non Executive Chairman – Hayleys Maritime Agencies Ltd., Non Executive Director – Hayleys PLC ; Haycarb PLC; Hayleys Exports PLC.

Currently he is a Non Executive Director of Hayleys Agro Holdings Ltd. Mr Godamunne has been a Director of the Coconut Research Institute and a Past President of the Coconut Growers Association.
