Sri Lanka’s rich and ancient agro-hydraulic heritage includes large reservoirs, canals and cascaded village-tank systems, declared as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage (GIAHS). Important investments continue to be made in multipurpose river basin development schemes and other large, medium and small-scale water resources and irrigation development projects in parallel with the rehabilitation and modernisation of existing infrastructure. Environment and climate change adaptation

Sri Lanka is a country blessed with an abundance of ecosystems and several endemic species, earning it the distinction of being designated as one of 36 biodiversity hotspots in the world. The genetic diversity of agricultural crops is also quite remarkable. However, Sri Lanka’s biodiversity is severely threatened by the impacts of human activity and climate change, adversely affecting the sustainability of its natural resources and dependent sectors such as tourism. Moreover, Sri Lanka is ranked as one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Tourism and socio-economic development​

Tourism makes important contributions to Sri Lanka’s economy, generating local and foreign exchange earnings, employment, and livelihood improvements. Providing Agriculture Services for Commercial Agriculture Development (CAD)

Infotechs IDEAS has expanded its scope into commercial agriculture development, building on its extensive experience from the World Bank–funded Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP). Utilizing the expertise of professionals who played key roles in ASMP, the company now provides comprehensive agriculture services to private developers through its newly established Agri Service Unit in Anuradhapura (since July 2025).

The main objective of this initiative is to deliver end-to-end support from planting to harvest and marketing, enhancing crop quality to export standards, increasing productivity, and strengthening value chains. Our services focus on improving supply chain coordination, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting value addition through direct exports and processing.

Currently, Infotechs IDEAS provides technical and management services to around 150 acres of fruit farms, with plans to expand by an additional 50 acres. The primary crops include TJC Mango, Guava, and Pomegranate, with Pineapple and Passionfruit as intercrops. The initiative also promotes high-density cultivation systems—successfully introduced under ASMP—to increase profitability and generate local employment opportunities.
